Introducing Bartlett Square: Modern Condos, New Retail, Green Design

Your local experts in Jamaica Plain real estate, Cervone Deegan & Associates, are pleased to be listing the new condominiums at Bartlett Square, a mixed-use development adjacent to the Green Street station. This is the first in a series of blog posts highlighting the amenities, green construction techniques, and the neighborhood.

How often have we, as residents of Jamaica Plain, exited the Green Street T and longed for a place to meet a friend, share a coffee or simply sit and enjoy the urban pulse & view of the bucolic Southwest Corridor Park? With the coming of Bartlett Square, that wish is a reality in the making.

Living in Jamaica Plain for 30 years, I have a particularly long view of the improvement Maple Hurst Builders is bringing to Bartlett Square. Three decades ago, at the age of 25, my first home purchase was a single family Victorian on Lamartine Street. The Southwest Corridor Park and the expansion of the orange line were underway at that point, and there were only mounds of dirt along the stretch where the train now hums along from Forest Hills to Back Bay, Downtown and beyond. Most of the homes in the area were not yet renovated (including mine!) and the canopy of trees that flank the park was absent. At best it had potential; the view from a colder eye could only be called bleak.

I recall one snowy evening in particular, when Boston was being whipped by a Northeaster. Driving was out of the question, 3 feet of snow blanketed the ground and there was no visibility.  But my then partner and I needed some sustenance and braved a walk. We wandered south down Lamartine and could not make it past the intersection of Green and Elm Streets. The only establishment was a seedy bar where the lovely City Green condos now stand. The bar was open but held none of the charm of Doyle’s or Brendan Behan; we stayed only long enough to muster the trek home.

To now witness Jamaica Plain’s preeminent developer, Chris DeSisto of Maple Hurst Builders, grace us with yet another beautiful project including nearly 5,000 sq ft of new retail space is one of the reasons why I love selling real estate here and so many of us enjoy living here.

To be cont’d!
